The female character in this series is clearly based on Bridget Jones with extra emphasis on the ability to drink copious amounts of alcohol and share great sex all the time inspite of the fact that she seems to spend an inordinate amount of time sitting around on the sofa in her pjs scoffing down huge amounts of junk food. To try to sell an additional image of someone such a roaring success as a writer and journalist with the minimum of effort in the most competitive and talent-saturated industry is so implausible that it just gets rather boring.

I Heart New York Lindsey Kelk 9780007288380 Books Reviews

Eh. That is basically how I would describe it. If you are looking for something that has a cheesy and cliche plot, then this book is for you. I got pretty annoyed with the main character who seems stupid and I also got annoyed with the boring supporting characters as well as the plays that the main character has to balance.
It's hard to write a good book. Unfortunately it's not hard to get a book published.

You can have no writing talent whatsoever but if you pick the write subject matter (currently vampires, Jane Austen knockoffs or anything set in New York) someone will publish you figuring that they can make money off the subject matter. This book is a good example of that.

The premise was good and the writing was better than a lot of what's out there but to be able to pull off a fairy tale like this you have to have something else to offer to make the suspension of disbelief possible and enjoyable and this writer failed miserably.

The book was riddled with flaws that any basic writing course would warn against, starting with the fact that there was no character development.

I kept waiting to get a sense of who Angela really was and by the time I finished the book all I got was that deep down she was really shallow.

People on both sides of the Atlantic kept falling all over themselves to give her things and do things for her but for the life of me I couldn't figure out why. She didn't appear to give anything back and her feelings for other people (including her own parents) seemed to depend on whether or not they were doing what she wanted them to.

The book lacked any kind of descriptions that would set the mood and make it fun. The endless shopping for instance read like a mall directory because all that the author did was mention labels she never described the clothes.

The same goes with the staggering amount of junk food that they all consumed (even the guys). Instead of being every woman's fantasy (calorie free chocolate) it just read like a menu and it very quickly got tedious.

There are authors who manage to write highly improbable and highly enjoyable chick lit. The late Olivia Goldsmith, Katie Fforde, and Lisa Jewell are all good examples. I don't believe that a book has to be Pullitzer prize winning literature to be an enjoyable and worthwhile read but it should have some respect for the readers intelligence.
A pleasant diversion but without the anticipated happily ever after at the end, unless all you are looking for is a better job in a city you have grown to appreciate.
This book I read to cleanse my palate since I was between books and it did it's job. The best way I can descibe it is a "The Devil wears Prada" meets "Sex and the City," but in a moderate version.
It starts with the main character having a life changing moment at her best friend's wedding and her world crashing down. She moves to New York to find herself. Instead she finds a new friend who gives her a make over and introduces her to the finest things in life and because of all these changes she ends up meeting two men and blogging about dating them both.
The story was well written and entertaining, I just got tired of reading about a certain accessory and how much the main character was in love with it. Also I didn't like the ending, but overall the book was enjoyable.
To be honest, when I first started reading I Heart New York I found it a little over the top. The characters and their antics were a bit bizarre. But after reading for a while I fell IN LOVE with these characters (except maybe Jenny, still a bit much). Angela is cute and crazy and absolutely hilarious! And Alex, oh my goodness! They make the best couple.

I heart New York is the first in the series, set in (you guessed it) New York. Lindsey Kelk does an amazing job of really portraying the atmosphere of each of the cities, LA, Paris, Vegas, London, in which the books in this series are set. One other thing she does fantastically is take you through the various stages of Angela and Alex's romance. Even though these books are crazy funny, in that sense, Angela and Alex's relationship is very real and sweet, and I heart it.

If you like I Heart New York even a little bit, trust me, keep reading, the series gets better and better! Such a fun read, with a sigh-worthy romance. In a lot of ways these books remind me of Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series.

If I could be any crazy book character in the world I would be Angela, her life makes me smile.
