I really like this book, and not just because Jason thanks me in the acknowledgments in the back (I don't know what I did to deserve an acknowledgment, but I'm glad to have been of service). Cloud And Other Stories is a collection of quirky short stories. Jason's fiction is very realistic, except usually each story has one fantastic element that sends the narrative into a land of wild imagination. It's almost akin to magical realism, but I'd describe his style more as Raymond Carver on LSD because it's so normal otherwise. I mean clouds go to coffeeshops with people all the time, right? And it's totally normal when you have a sore throat to just ask your buddy if you can shrink him and he can rappel down your throat, isn't it? Man, I'd like to live in one of Jason's fantasy worlds, but since that doesn't seem to be possible, I'm glad that we have this book to visit them from time to time. This is very experimental, very funny and, at times, very disturbing stuff. In short, it's the kind of fiction that American literature needs more of. Please buy this book so Jason feels encouraged to keep cranking it out. I know that I'll be reading it if he does so.
