I am a vampire junkie, so I'm really glad I discovered Diana Marik's Seven Deadly Veils series. I was drawn immediately to the sexy Valadon, who is not only the brilliant & powerful CEO of ValCorp, but also head of the New York City Vampires. Remare is Valadon's second in command and head of his Torian Guards. The brooding, mysterious, and sexy Remare is fiercely loyal to Valadon and will do whatever it takes to protect him from their enemies, of which the vampires have many. When a human, Professor Miranda Crescent, gets caught in the middle of an assassination attempt, Remare is highly suspicious of her, despite both his, and Valadon's, undeniable attraction to her. Ultimately, they will all have to work together to try to defeat the threat to Valadon. The Professor is also best friend to the Were Queen, Lizandra, who is a strong ally of the vampires. Of course, the Weres have their own issues. As the story unfolds, we find that the Professor has some hidden secrets, some of which have yet to be revealed both to herself and us, the readers. There are lots of characters to discover, and I, for one, cannot wait for the next book and all the rest to follow. Give these vampires a read -- you won't regret it. My only regret is that I have to WAIT for the story to continue.

What an action packed adventure you have in store when you grab this book to read. The characters are all very well developed and have such strong personalities. You just have to love the good guys and really hate the bad guys. There's always something happening as the story progresses. You get to meet the Vampires and Were in New York City and follow along as the plots against them unfold. This is the first book in the series and I can see lots more action to come. I can't wait for the next book in the series to be released.
A friend recommended Veil of Shadows to me. "I don't do vampires," was my response. Imagine my surprise, when I couldn't put it down! Diana Marik has transformed the premise of the "vampire world" for me. By introducing me to Miranda, Remare and Valadon, she drew me in ---- I'm a believer! I WANT the powers of the Elementals.

Her extraordinary dialogue and astonishing plot created a new, unexplored, and exciting environment in which I have made myself "a member." I am in awe of her incredible characters. Marik kept me on the edge of my seat as she dove straight down into the abyss that is their lives. The suspense is remarkable and I'm anxious to continue with the rest of the series. Marik's voice and style make these tomes an easy read. Bravo! More please!!!
I not a huge fan of paranormal novels but I flipping LOVED this book.
I was drawn immediately to the main characters of Veil of Shadows. There’s the sexy Valadon, who is the brilliant & powerful CEO of ValCorp and head of the New York City Vampires. Another sexy character vying for my attention is Valadon’s second in command, Remare. The brooding, loyal, and well-trained Remare will do whatever it takes to keep Valadon safe from their enemies. The female lead is Professor Miranda Crescent who has captured the attention & attraction of the two high ranking vampires as well as the physician of the vampires. She proves to be an intelligent and strong human who as she gets more involved in the vampire world, has caution & curiosity, but no fear. Along with Miranda and the vampires there is a world of Weres who have their own issues. There are a lot of characters to discover and they each have their personalities. The author has carefully constructed this Vampire/Were/Human world with very descriptive characters & settings that you can imagine it being real. The characters are edgy, sexy, and intriguing. Her writing style drew me in and kept me fascinated; the suspense kept me on the edge waiting to see what would happen next. Veil of Shadows is fast paced and action packed. I highly recommend this book to fans of paranormal romance and romantic urban fantasy as well as those who are not a fan of that genre - you might, like me, become a fan.

Her heroine, Miranda Crescent, is present when an attack occurs on the vampire king, Lord Valadon. These vampires are super-chic business tycoons who, unfortunately, have many enemies. Valadon has his Torian Guard to protect him, including the sarcastic and sexy Remare, who suspects Valadon’s love interest, Miranda, is a spy for one of their most dangerous enemies, the HOL—the Human Order of Light. Friction immediately ignites between them as they track down clues to Valadon’s would be killers. The chemistry between Miranda and Remare is electric as neither one trusts the other, but as time goes on, they learn to put aside their differences and work together to track down the assassins.
Among the many interesting characters include an androgynous courtesan, a mysterious vampire ancient named Blu, who this reader suspects may turn out to be either good or evil, and the queen of the werewolves, Lizandra, who happens to be Miranda’s BFF. The heat sizzles between Valadon and Miranda, but it is the dynamic relationship between Remare and Miranda that gives this story its spark of adrenaline rush.
Ms. Marik has carefully constructed her Veilverse in New York City where we discover Werehaven, Queen Lizandra’s underground lair in Central Park, and Nightworld, the hangout of Rogue vampires, led by the devious Stryder. But the most intriguing locale is Valadon’s financial empire of ValCorp, and his subterranean world of Valadon House, where the vampires live, work and play. And these vampires love to play hard.
Ms. Marik knows how to create suspense and keeps readers on the edge of their seats waiting to discover what will happen next. I highly recommend this book to fans of paranormal romance and romantic urban fantasy. You will not be disappointed.
